INTRODUCTION
Thisstudyaimedtoevaluatetheaccuracyofprocalcitonin(PCT)serumconcentrationstodiagnoseGram-negativebacteremiaandtheassociationofPCTserumconcentrationswithmorespecificpathogensandthefocusofinfection.

METHOD
Secondaryanalysisoftheprospectivelycollectedpatient-leveldatasetfromaclusterrandomizedqualityimprovementtrialwasperformed.Thetrialincludedsepsispatientswithorgandysfunctiontreatedintheparticipatingintensivecareunitsfromto.TestperformanceforthepredictionofGram-negativebacteremiawasassessedbyreceiveroperatingcurveanalysis.IndependenteffectsofspecificpathogengroupsandfociofinfectiononPCTconcentrationswereassessedbylinearlogisticregressionmodels.
